Ortigas-Based Firms Raided by NBI Raided by the NBI Anti-Fraud and Computer Crimes Division (AFCCD) headed by Assistant Regional Director Vicente de Guzman III were the Wang Pangilinan Design Studio Inc. located at Unit 1210 of Jollibee Plaza on F. Ortigas Jr. Avenue, Ortigas, Pasig City; and RVP Design and Development Consultants located at Unit 1008 West Tower Philippine Stock Exchange (Tektite) in Pasig City. Government agents seized seven computers loaded with alleged pirated software copies of AutoCAD, Autodesk Architectural Desktop and 3D Studio Max worth P 3.1 million from Wang Pangilinan Design Studio Inc. and 11 computers loaded with unlicensed reproductions of AutoCAD, 3D Studio Max and AutoCAD Revit Architectural software worth P 6.8 million from RVP Design & Development Consultants. The establishments were raided after the NBI agents secured search warrants from the Manila Regional Trial Court. It was learned that Wang Pangilinan Design Studio Inc. was engaged in architectural and CAD drafting services, specializing in dining and restaurants while RVP Design & Development Consultants, Inc. was engaged in architectural and interior designing services. NBI Director Nestor Mantaring said, “The design software is an integral productivity tool especially in preparing project plans and proposals for companies which are in the business of providing design and architectural services. These companies have intellectual creations of their own. It is just proper for them to acquire legal licenses for the software that they are using, just as they would expect others to respect their own intellectual property rights.” “The raids against businesses using unlicensed and pirated software are now being conducted not only within Metro Manila, but throughout the rest of the country. You can expect more raids against software piracy across the length and breadth of the archipelago as long as there are businesses that continue to use pirated software,” Mantaring said. The NBI director explained that the raids were part of the intensified nationwide enforcement campaign of the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team composed of the NBI, Optical Media Board and Philippine National Police against businesses that are using unlicensed and pirated software.
